Mercury Roundup (Oct. 4): Hill School’s Beaudoin hits hole-in-one

BOYS GOLF

Malvern Prep 197, Hill School 219

Highlights: Though the Blues dropped Monday’s match at Applebrook Golf Club, they had the highlight of the day.

As play concluded, Thomas Beaudoin used a gap wedge on the ninth hole — an intimidating 135-yard par-three with an elevated green an d trouble everywhere. The shot bounced twice and drained into the hole for his first hole-in-one, sending both teams watching near the green into a pandemonium before Hill’s golfers rushed up the fairway to celebrate with their teammate.

Gregor Weissenberger’s five-over 41 was the best score of the day for Hill. Also scoring were Beaudoin (43), Nick Rafetto (43), Terry Shao (46) and Lucas Steinmetz (46).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Upper Merion 3, Pottsgrove 0

Highlights: Sophia Schweikert had 20 kills and 11 digs while Caitlyn Daywalt and Raven Albrecht combined for 30 assists in Upper Merion’s 25-10, 25-18 and 25-19 sweep of Pottsgrove in PAC Frontier action Monday.

Vanessa Hutchinson had 14 service points to go with her 10 digs for Upper Merion, which improved to 8-2 in the PAC and 7-0 in the Frontier.

Perkiomen Valley 3, Central Bucks West 1

Highlights: The Vikings won Monday’s non-league contest in four sets (25-17, 27-29, 25-21 and 25-18).

Statistical standouts for PV included Lilah Maus (12 kills, 2 aces 2 blocks, 1 dig), Naomi Clauhs (10 kills, 6 aces, 11 assists, 3 blocks), Olivia Wusinich (15 assists, 11 digs, 3 aces) and Sam Corey (6 blocks, 3 kills).

Pope John Paul II 3, Owen J. Roberts 0

Highlights: The Wildcats fell 25-16, 25-11 and 25-20 in three sets Monday in PAC Frontier action.

Highlighting OJR in the loss were Ellie Kalbac (1 ace, 1 kill, 8 assists, 4 block assists, 3 digs), Bridget Kowalski (12 digs), Katie Arcara (1 ace, 4 kills, 2 block assists), Meghan Toughey (1 ace, 5 kills, 1 block assist, 4 digs), Sarah Mominey (8 assists, 4 digs), Caroline Halsey (4 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists, 2 digs), Alaina Prekup (1 kill, 2 block assists), Brianna Ryan (1 kill, 7 block assists, 1 dig), Caroline Stone (2 block assists, 1 dig) and Avery Needham (2 digs).

Spring-Ford 3, Norristown 0

Highlights: The Rams earned a PAC Liberty sweep (25-7, 25-7, 25-9) on Monday against the Eagles

Sophomore Dannica Fuller led with nine assists, and junior Jordan Vukson tallied six aces and six digs.

Junior Sara Fritzinger and freshman Lauren Angelucci both had six kills and junior Gabrielle DiRico had five kills for the Rams.

FIELD HOCKEY

Pope John Paul II 2, Phoenixville 1

Highlights: Fiona Burke and Brooklyn Rogers scored in PJP’s PAC Frontier win Monday. Gi Manza made seven defensive saves for the Golden Panthers.

Methacton 5, Owen J. Roberts 1

Highlights: Elena Snodgrass tallied a pair of goals and Madison Noh added three assists in

Highlights: Mackenzie Johnson pitched a second-half shutout as the Falcons erased a 2-1 halftime deficit with five goals after the break in Monday’s PAC Frontier win.

Goals: PG – Katie Bean 2, Cece Burg 2, Lu O’Neill, Ally Hakes; UM – Ella Menke, Ashley Evitts.

Assists: PG – Riley Kalejta, Cece Burg, Ally Hakes; UM Ella Menke, Riley McGrath.

BOYS SOCCER

Pottsgrove 1, Pope John Paul II 0

Highlights: Landon Shivak’s penalty kick with 12:28 left in the first half held up as the winner for the Falcons in Monday’s PAC Frontier win. Pottsgrove had the advantage in shots on goal at 8-5.

Spring-Ford 3, Governor Mifflin 0

Highlights: Justin Russell scored a pair of goals and Eric Moriarity’s three saves preserved the shutout as the Rams (9-2-1) won their fifth straight game in non-league action Monday.

Goals: SF – Justin Russell 2,  Cameron Jones.

Assists: SF – Tyler Wellington, Joey Ricevuto, Cole Preschutti.

GIRLS SOCCER

Highlights: Liv Curry and Siena Miller each picked up first-half goals, and Olivia Neild picked up the clean sheet in goal for the Rams, needing to make just two saves.

Highlights: Coach Elena Dauphinais earner her first victory at Hill with Monday’s victory.
