Radnor’s state tournament drought for girls team tennis is over.
Wins by Grace Hederick and Kanon Ciarrocchi in singles play, and a victory by Grave Moore and Lucy Hederick at first doubles was what the seventh-seeded Raiders needed to stun second-seeded Conestoga, 3-1, in the quarterfinals of the District 1 Class 3A team tournament Thursday.
That win earned Radnor a berth in the semifinals and also put the Raiders in the Oct. 25 PIAA team tournament for the first time since 2010. Radnor takes on the winner of sixth-seeded Downingtown West and No. 3 Harriton in the district semis. That match was postponed to Oct. 17.
Grace Hederick was a 7-6 (2), 6-4 winner over Ashley Griffith at first singles. Ciarrocchi won by default at second singles. Moore and Lucy Hederick bounced back from a loss in the first set to clinch the match with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Priya Aravindhan and Olivia Dodge.
